Enjoy the Moment

So many of us go through life constantly worrying about tomorrow or continuously trying to plan for the days ahead.  I’m not saying that you shouldn’t prepare for the future, but it should not overwhelm you or consume your thoughts either.  Many people experience stress, setbacks, and anxiety as a result of this, especially when your plans lead you to a totally different direction.  Sometimes you need to just relax and enjoy the present moment. Close your eyes; take a deep breath. There is so much happening right now that you don’t want to miss.


When we fail to live in the moment, we lose out on opportunities and experiences. That is why it is so important to just enjoy where you are now.  The only way to apply this is to choose to live in the present; forgetting about the past and letting go of trying to control the future. Choose to enjoy every moment to the fullest.


A few co-workers and myself went out for some drinks. It was supposed to be an enjoyable moment of laughter and good vibes, but all I could think about was everything I needed to get done when I get home such as cook dinner, help my kids with homework, laundry and so much other stuff.  I definitely wasn’t enjoying my moment.  I wanted to, but my mind was so anxious that it was impossible for me to focus on the enjoyment. How many times have you missed out on experience because you were so caught up in your own thoughts?


Take yourself out of your thoughts and control where they lead you. For some, this may be difficult, but you must be intentional about wanting to live and think for the present.  You have to train your mind and thoughts. Focus on what is happening around you at that given moment.  It’s all about your mindset.


The practice of meditation helped me to shift my mind and directed my focus for the present.  I decided to create a schedule where I would pray and meditate in the morning for 30 minutes each day.  Meditating was the best choice because it put me in control of my thoughts and actions for the start of my day. Opportunities and experiences are missed because we’re preoccupied with thinking about the past or panicking about the future. We may never experience some of these moments ever again.  You are only given one life. Appreciate it and enjoy it!
