BlaQ Her-Story Feature: Keywana Wright

Keywana Wright is a native of Flint, Michigan. She is a devoted mother of one daughter, Miss Tayler Williams. Ms. Wright is a self-publisher and author of the four short devotional books, Walking in God’s Destiny, Keywana’ s Collection of Prayers and Poems, 31 daily prayers for the Virtuous woman, and One leap into your God-Given purpose. She is a motivational speaker, writer, and prayer warriors. She hosts 5 Minutes Words of Encouragement on Facebook lives on Friday’s mornings. A podcast program “Good Night Prayers with Keywana Wright” on Tuesday’s at 9pm.

Keywana is a Jr. Missionary and serves in various capacities at her local church as well as the community. Keywana’ s dream is to work and serve in full-time women’s outreach ministry. She has a God-giving love for women and to help them reach their purpose in the Kingdom of God. She believes in the power of prayer. She is a witness that there is nothing impossible to him that believe.

Over the past 14 years she has continued to work in the Human Service Field. She also has worked with domestic Violence and sexual assault victims.

She is a volunteer at Carriage Town Ministries. She encourages and uplifts the women at Carriage Town with her mentor, Minister Brittany Willingham. Keywana is certified as a Life coach.

Keywana holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Family Life Education from Spring Arbor University. She has a certificate in Leadership in Ministry. She continues to work in women’s ministry in her local church and outreach ministry.

Keywana’ s favorite bible verse, “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path. Proverbs 3:6

BLAQ STARDOM MAGAZINE: WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO START WRITING?

KEYWANA WRIGHT: My inspiration to start writing was my desire to encourage others through my writing. I enjoy expressing my feelings and thoughts as I write them. I feel I communicate best when I am writing. Writing is a part of my purpose and I feel fulfilled when I am writing to inspire others.

BLAQ STARDOM: GROWING UP IN THE CHURCH, WHAT HAS BEEN SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES?

KEYAWANA: I would say discovering who I am and my purpose. So often as Christian, we conform to who we think other want us to be. We serve in the church. But we off miss the mark as to what our true calling is.  So I struggle for years what my purpose was.

BLAQ STARDOM: AS A SELF-PUBLISHER OF YOUR OWN BOOKS, WHAT HAS BEEN THE PRO’S AND CONS FOR YOU?

KEYWANA: As a self-publisher the pro’s is I can determine my book budget and what it will be, I can write about what I would like, I can choose which publishing platform I would like to use.

Cons- As a self-publisher you are responsible for the book process from the beginning to the end. You have to do all the work through the publishing process. Publish the book, market the book and sell the book.

BLAQ STARDOM: I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR DEVOTIONAL BOOKS YOU HAVE WRITTEN.  HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE CONCEPT FOR EACH ONE?

KEYWANA: All my books have been inspired by God. I have a relationship with God through my daily prayer life. God gives me the titles and downloads what to write about through my personal experiences.

BLAQ STARDOM: YOUR NEWEST BOOK “IT’S POSSIBLE, SPEAK IT:30 DAYS OF AFFIRMATIONS” WILL BE RELEASED JANUARY 31ST.  TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE INSPIRATION TO WRITE IT AND WHY IT IS AN IMPORTANT TOPIC TO SPEAK ON?

KEYWANA: One day as I was driving down the street I saw a billboard that said it is possible. That statement stands in my mind. As I was journeying some days later. It came to my mind ” It’s possible, speak it. I am a person who believes in the power of speaking it and believing it. I am giving my readers and following my person insight of what I do and how I have had a great out coming from speaking it. The bible tells us to speak those things as those they be. The power of life and death are in our tongue.

BLAQ STARDOM: WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM EACH ONE OF YOUR BOOKS?

KEYWANA: Most of my books are self-help books. They provide tools, principles, and exercises on how to have a prayer journey and how to pray and speak affirmations into your life.

BLAQ STARDOM: YOU ARE ALSO THE HOST OF YOUR OWN PODCAST SHOW “GOOD NIGHT PRAYERS WITH KEYWANA WRIGHT” HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT IDEA? TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR SHOW.

KEYWANA: “Goodnight Prayers with Keywana” was an idea and vision that came from my formally pastor’s wife, Mother Lillian Dulap the praying mother of the air. She would pray goodnight prayers on the radio, so I am following in her footsteps.

BLAQ STARDOM: WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR PURPOSE IS IN LIFE? WE ALL KNOW GOD GIVES US A GIFT AND A PURPOSE.

KEYWANA: My mission and purpose is to inspire, uplift, encourage and bring other women to Christ through my motivational speeches and devotional writing. To teach believers how to journal their prayer strategist.

BLAQ STARDOM: AS A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE THINGS YOU SPEAK ON?

KEYWANA: Three main topics I speak on are: Becoming the best you, Women in Leadership Prayer and affirmations.

BLAQ STARDOM: TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR MISSIONARY AND VOLUNTEER WORK YOU DO IN YOUR COMMUNITY? WHAT DOES BEING A JR. MISSIONARY MEAN TO YOU?

KEYWANA: I volunteer at two local shelters speaking and creating fun and mindful activities to help the ladies become a better person and encourage them to get their lives back on track.

BLAQ STARDOM: ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON ANY NEW PROJECTS FOR THIS YEAR?

KEYWANA: Yes, I am currently writing as a Co-author on several analogy writing projects that will be published in the next couple of months.

BLAQ STARDOM: WHAT DOES BEING A SUCCESSFUL BLACK WOMAN AND AUTHOR MEAN TO YOU?

KEYWANA: It is very important to me to be successful and do what God has given me to do while I am here on earth. As an author, my purpose is to encourage others through writing by sharing my life’s experiences.

BLAQ STARDOM: HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU AND PURCHASE YOUR BOOKS?

KEYWANA: I am on social media- Facebook and Instagram. All my books are located on Amazon.
