Author Feature with Erotica Author Mariposa

“Just write, get a gifted mentor as I did to guide you, use writing prompts often to get the creativity going, don’t be afraid to try different genres to see what you’re best at.

A charming Gemini with a passion for writing emerged on the poetry scene in July 2012. A true Gemini, she uses her own  to either tease her audience with her blend of erotic, sensual and provocative flavors or to be powerfully encouraging and empowering. She is one of the contributing writers in Robert R.Gibson’s anthology “Erotic”. Her repertoire included not only poetry, but short stories as well. Her work has been featured in Bajan Sun Magazine, Afroerotik Ezine, Masterful Mindgasm, Nushen Erotica and The Erotic Rendezvous. Mariposa has evolved from a shy open Mic performer to becoming a featured performer hosting shows in Barbados to hosting the American Radio Show ” Smooth Operators”  on Black Satin Radio to a bold and sassy author. Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish and it’s the symbol of Mariposa’s own personal growth.

BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?

MARIPOSA: I started writing while a student at the Alexandra School here in Barbados under the tutelage of the late Alvin Perry, Then as therapy while a student at UWI, I needed a hobby that was not distracting from my studies and still one that I enjoyed doing enough to make it relaxing. I started attending Open Mic events and watching friends perform, then one night I just got tired watching and touched the mic. Words flowed, then became books.

BLAQVERSITY:  Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?

MARIPOSA: As a child growing up, I read all of the Anne of Green Gables series, and I had this romantic notion of being a writer, but as I grew up, you would hear, get a proper job that pays the bills, with motivation from my beau, I pursued the dream, not the romantic notion I had as a child but to be a writer none the less.

BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?

MARIPOSA: I have many favorites but to pin down a few  they would be the Late Dr. Maya Angelou, Eric Jerome Dickey, Robert Sandiford and Robert Gibson aka “Passion Poet”.

BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?

MARIPOSA: Being a writer while working full time was  a challenge  so I had to organize my time for various activities carefully. I learnt that writers block is normal and to do things to take me out of it.

Marketing, marketing, marketing, such a challenge, but I found a solution and that is to hire someone.

BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written?

MARIPOSA: I have 7 completed books.

Writing allows me to explore creatively, to go to countries and experience different cultures through my research and books.

BLAQVERSITY: What is your genre?

MARIPOSA: My main genre is Erotica, but I am considered versatile. I have a motivational book and two romantic collections.

BLAQVERSITY:  What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

MARIPOSA: For the motivational book (s) learn from my experiences, for the romantic  and erotic books, enjoy lol, try something new to spice up your relationship.

BLAQVERSITY:  Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?

MARIPOSA: Just write, get a gifted mentor as I did to guide you, use writing prompts often to get the creativity going, don’t be afraid to try different genres to see what you’re best at.

BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects?

MARIPOSA: Yesssss!!

BLAQVERSITY: If so, when can we expect them to be released?

MARIPOSAOne should be on Amazon by April 1st, the other by May 31st.They are two different genres and its funny how they are growing together.

BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?

MARIPOSA: Writing allows me to explore creatively, to go to countries and experience different cultures through my research and books.

BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

MARIPOSA: Five years from now I will still be writing and exploring, maybe mentoring some young writers to keep the creativity alive.

BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?

MARIPOSA: Yes I have, but at this moment its not possible but maybe one day.

BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?

MARIPOSA:  Hmmm, I would have love to write with Les Brown and Eric Jerome Dickey. Yes I know, Motivational and Romance/Erotica are total opposites but those are my strongest genres.

BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

MARIMOSA: Marketing has always been my weak point so I leave it to the expert on my team. The only time I have to market  my books effectively are during the holidays while on  my 9 to 3 job.

BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?

MARIPOSA: To order directly from Amazon :  http://www.amazon.com/author/mariposa_bq246
