Author Feature with Poet and Fiction Writer Shelleay Green

 

 

Born and raised in Decatur, IL, LeaTheWriter is a poet, writer and the Author of “Diary Of An Unorthodox GEMini. After more than a decade of writing, Shelleay decided to take pieces from her personal “diary” and create a book titled Diary Of An Unorthodox GEMini. After about ten plus years in the mental health field working with passive/aggressive trauma she felt a calling to be a part of the solution in a bigger way. The material she creates is very relatable because of the way she implements life experience, it’s also very unconventional and entertaining.  BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?
LEATHEWRITER: Well, I’ve been writing since H.S, a few years ago I said that I was going to write a book and last June I challenged myself to get it done! I was a self-published by September.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue?
LEATHEWRITER: No, never! I was just my safe place.
BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?
LEATHEWRITER: Khalil Gibran and Mya Angelou
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
LENATHEWRITER: My greatest challenge is finding my audience.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?
LEATHEWRITER: I’ve written two poetry books and am currently working on a fiction story as we speak.
BLAQVERSITY:  What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
LEATHEWRITER: The message is always to conqueror. I write to empower people as they overcome whatever obstacles they face.
BLAQVERSITY:  Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
LEATHEWRITER: Research is always my first tip to new Authors, there’s so much information available and different options on how to publish. Being well informed makes those hard decisions and choices a little bit easier.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
LEATHEWRITER: Yes, I have so much new content. I can’t wait to release!
BLAQVERSITY:  What does being an author mean to you?
LEATHEWRITER: Being an Author means so much to me, its gives me a platform to creating the changes that I want to see. It’s a true privilege.
BLAQVERSITY:  Where do you see yourself five years from now?
LEATHEWRITER: I see myself as a more established writer, exploring speaking and trying to create more platforms to promote positive self-imaging.
BLAQVERSITY:  Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
LEATHEWRITER: Yes, I was full time right after I launched the book. I just recently returned to work.

BLAQVERSITY:  If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?
LEATHEWRITER: Khalil Gibran, his wisdom and insightfulness is incredible I admire the way he creates honest and transparent poetry.
BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
LEATHEWRITER: It is a huge challenge for me, so much so that I signed up for actually marketing class to assist me in developing my marketing approach.
