S.L. Goodies has just begun her authorship with her new paranormal release “Their Cursed Hart”. Residing on the outskirts of Atlanta, GA, she creates sensual stories with big beautiful black women to center stage in her books. When she’s not hovering over a keyboard or having her nose in a book she’s busy spending time with her family. She’s a French fry fanatic and enjoys a corny movie from time to time.
“I am studying up on marketing and promoting myself and my books. At the end of the day promoting my work isn’t enough. Readers want to be connected to their authors.”
BLAQVERSITY: How did your journey as an author began?
S.L. GOODIES: My author journey began when I was a teenager. I used writing as an escape from the world around me.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?
S.L. I’ve always wanted to write full-time. My family, losing my job, and getting a five star review on Amazon.
BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?
S.L. Carl Weber, V. Vee, Phoenix Williams, Christine Gray, Aseera, Shai August, Taylor Spratt, Robin, Can’di, Posey Parks, Criss Carr, Pauline Woods, Nikki Clarke, N.D. Jones, Tiya Rayne- to name a few.
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
S.L. The challenges I’ve faced is marketing. It is a work in progress.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?
S.L. I have written an romance-erotica paranormal lesbian ménage short story titled: “Their Cursed Hart” that is part of a series called “Harts of Luria”. It is the first in a trilogy about a cursed witch whose touch can kill and the witchy women who want her no matter what.
BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
S.L. All of my stories have a big beautiful black heroine so my message was that everyone deserves love even if they don’t think they do, or if society doesn’t think so.
BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
S.L. Author Robin, published a book: “Self Publishing for Independent Women”, which is a great place to get a gauge on where to start, depending on your writing journey. She doesn’t sugarcoat her advice and I can appreciate that. You can find it on Amazon. Research, YouTube, join Facebook groups, and ask questions. There are a lot of groups out there with a lot of authors, first time writers, indie authors that love to share tips and tricks.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
S.L. Yes, I am currently working on the next two books in the Harts of Luria Series that come after “Their Cursed Hart” called “Their Broken Hart”, and “Their Hart & Soul” which will release early June 2020. I am also a part of a group of wonderful authors who are writing an anthology, along with separate books called Feline Assassins. They are women who are assassins with feline codenames that work to keep chaos in order. My novel “Chartreux”, will drop on May 19, 2020. It’s a paranormal romance-erotica about my badass Feline who finds love amidst betrayal. Summer 2020 is going to be a killer. I’m working with another group of talented authors for a series called: “Women In Power” about black women in powerful positions like a commissioner in the NFL, a POTUS, scientists, and doctors. My character: Sammarah Gibson is a crisis manager to the powerful and famous who falls for her client who is accused of something deadly. You’ll be meeting her in “Caught Up” that will be released later this year in September (my birthday month) .
BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?
S.L. It means that I have the ability to create a story, a world, and be able to bring my readers into it. If I can have you get swept into my stories, then I have done my job.
BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
S.L. USA Bestseller, NY Times Bestseller, and writing full-time with ease.
BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
S.L. Yes! All the time!
BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?
S.L. Carl Webber, because he’s leading ladies always have some ‘meat on their bones’. All my heroines have that in common. Besides I’m a huge fan of his!
BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
S.L. I am studying up on marketing and promoting myself and my books. At the end of the day promoting my work isn’t enough. Readers want to be connected to their authors.
BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?
S.L. I have Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and an Amazon Author page @slgoodies or @slgoodieserotica. On July 18, 2020 I’ll be in Decatur, GA at Atlanta Kickback in Decatur, GA with my first author table.
