Author Feature with Dominque Clark, Poetry and Non-fiction Author

“When anyone reads my books I want them to be inspired, motivated and encouraged in live. I want them to know I am a real person that experiences real things and if I can make it through those things life throws, so can they.”

BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?
DOMINQUE CLARK: I started writing as a preteen, I would write fantasy short stories. As I got older, I began writing poetry and got better at writing my short stories. By the age of 23 I completed my first romantic short story.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to peruse? Who motivated you?
DOMINQUE: Yes, being a writer was always a dream of mine as a child. I wanted to become a journalist in high school. What motivated me was when my friends and family would read my work and tell me how good it was or want to know when I was going to finish.
BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?
DOMINIQUE:  My top 3 authors at the moment are Jason Covey, Ann Patchett & Jojo Mayes
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
DOMINIQUE: I have not run across any challenges as of yet but it has been a journey planning book events.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?
DOMINQUE: I have written 3 books total, with 2 in the final stages of being completed. I am very flexible as an author. I have written mainly poetry and non-fiction short stories.
BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
DOMINQUE:  When anyone reads my books I want them to be inspired, motivated and encouraged in live. I want them to know I am a real person that experiences real things and if I can make it through those things life throws, so can they.
BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
DOMINIQUE:  My suggestions for a new author would be to break the story down into chapters. Writing a summary of what each chapter will be about will help build structure while writing your book.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
DOMINIQUE: At this time, I am working on Dynamically Own It Part II entitled, “Strength Defined, Elevation Activated” This book will be released on July 4th, 2020
BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?
DOMINIQUE:  Being an author to me, means strength. It takes a lot of courage to write about no matter what genre. Being an author makes me feel I am being a voice for my reader, who may have been through or may be going through the situation they are reading about in my book. Being an author to me says, my voice will be heard long after I’m unable to speak.
BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
DOMINIQUE: Five years from now I would like to have my own publishing company. Writing my own book and self-publishing allowed me to experience the process, I would like to help make that process easy for other authors.
BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
DOMINIQUE: I have thought about being a full-time author, I write often and have several experiences to share that I’m sure would help someone in life.
BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be any why?
DOMINIQUE: If I could co-author with any author in the world, I would have to say it would be Stephen King. I have been a huge fan since I was a very little girl, Stephen King was a household name and my mother had the bookshelf full of Stephen King books to back it. I would love that collaboration, we are both detailed descriptive writers which keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The reader can visualize what they are reading and I believe that is a plus when it comes to one finishing a book.
BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
DOMINIQUE: This is my first book to be published, but I will be using short promo videos, book signing events, and special pricing as marketing strategies. Marketing outside of the local area will also be used as a marketing strategy. Being honest, it has been challenging to promote my book, as reading is not as popular as it should be in my current place of residence.
BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?
DOMINIQUE: Readers can connect with me via email at dynamicallyownit@gmail.com v http://www.facebook.com/coachd
