“The message that I want my readers to take away is that they are not alone in their experience of the dark and mental battles. I have experienced depression, suicidal thoughts, and attempts, poverty, unstableness and disobedience to God. God will never take his hand off of you. He will keep the promises that he made for you and he hears your every cry and prayer. Just hold on and don’t give up! Your breakthrough is closer then you think.”
BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?
FRANCES DUPREE: Before I left my previous marriage while I was in bible college working on my BA in ministry he gave me the title of the book.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue?
FRANCES: No and to be honest my life long dream was to become a Criminal Defense Attorney. I wanted to be a voice for the people that can’t be a voice for themselves.
BLAQVERSITY: Who motivated you?
FRANCES: A prophet motivated me. I was already in the process of writing the book and I kept starting and stopping but I was told by a prophet that souls were waiting on me to finish my book. I began to cry because only two people knew I was writing the book and there was no way this Prophet knew so I knew it was nothing but God.
BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?
FRANCES: John Grisham has always been my favorite author.
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
FRANCES: I am a very new author and my book will be published in April. I just finished the final edits and my publisher has it in the publishing process at the moment. I would say thus far my challenges is that I have no idea how to spread the word about my book. I don’t know how to join book signings.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written?
FRANCES: I have written one book.
BLAQVERSITY: What is your genre?
FRANCES: Bibliography/ Christian books
BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
FRANCES: The message that I want my readers to take away is that they are not alone in their experience of the dark and mental battles. I have experienced depression, suicidal thoughts, and attempts, poverty, unstableness and disobedience to God. God will never take his hand off of you. He will keep the promises that he made for you and he hears your every cry and prayer. Just hold on and don’t give up! Your breakthrough is closer then you think.
BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
FRANCES: My advice is to just start writing.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
FRANCES: I am currently living in my second book. I will start writing it in December of this year. So sometime next year you can expect to see the second book of mine. There are only two.
BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?
FRANCES: Being an author means that everything that I went through was necessary and now it’s my time to speak up and share the goodness of the Lord.
BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
FRANCES: Being a number one and best selling author of both of my books, speaking at many events and conferences motivating women, passing the bar, speaking and fighting for the people that can’t do it for themselves.
BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
FRANCES: To be honest I didn’t see being an author in my future at all. But if that is what I am lead to do then I will.
BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?
FRANCES: Danielle Williams McCord because I believe that we both have had some powerful journeys in life and I believe that if we put those journeys together that would be such a powerful life-changing book.
BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
FRANCES: Thus far I have been using social media as a marketing tool, and when I can sign up for other exposure opportunities I use them. It’s a challenge for me because I’m new to this and doing what I can.
BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?
