“I wanted to help the world and motivate others. I wanted to have a document that people can carry around and read whenever they needed some motivation and a pick me up. I used the teachings, and values of my parents in my first book.”
BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author begin?
SHELBY C. DAVIS: I wanted to help the world and motivate others. I wanted to have a document that people can carry around and read whenever they needed some motivation and a pick me up. I used the teachings, and values of my parents in my first book.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?
SHELBY: Never, I just wanted to write to inspire and help others, that has always been my motivation and passion.
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
SHELBY: I want to continue to have events and motivate and help others, sometimes it’s hard to get connected with events.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?
SHELBY: One book thus far. My genre is self-help & motivational.
BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
SHELBY: Each day begins with you, time to get started. Ready, set, go!
BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
SHELBY: Try carrying around a small note pad with you to write down ideas as they come up. And most importantly to never give up, it’s a long process but keeps going and the reward will come.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
SHELBY: Yes, I am currently working on a children’s book and it’s expected to be released around Christmas 2020.
BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?
SHELBY: It means a lot to me because it allows me to help others by motivating, giving insight and spreading the message of perseverance to a large and diverse network of individuals. While writing my book this quote stuck out to me “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” – Walt Disney
BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
SHELBY: Continuing to write and motivate others, as well as doing workshops and presentations. I love to be out there spreading the message of positivity and creativity.
BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
SHELBY: I do not, writing for me is a hobby and not a career. I write to inspire 🙂 and give hope by sharing life’s obstacles that I deal with or have dealt with as well.
BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?
SHELBY: Oprah of course, or ROSIE O’Donnell; she’s hilarious!
BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
SHELBY: I mostly use social media platforms and my website to reach people. I greatly appreciate people sharing my posts and page.
BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?
