“When reading my books, I would like for people to get encouragement. I would like them to feel the love of God coming from my words. I want people to know that through it all, God is always there and seeing them through”.

BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author begin?

TRANISHA HARKLESS: I’ve always written, whether it was poems, or short stories. I decided to publish after my 6 years of writers’ block was lifted. My divorce was finalized and the same day I wrote my first book.

BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?

TRANISHA: I never thought about becoming a published writer, it just happened. My spiritual mother Pastor Simon was a huge motivator for me. She encouraged me to push on. I have to say between her, my Apostle, my parents Lawrence and Cathy, my sisters Cherica, Tracy and Shecketha, as well as my church family. I had some true motivators at a time I really needed it.

BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?

TRANISHA: One of my favorite authors has always been Maya Angelo. A few others are John Eckhardt, James Patterson, and Cindy Trimm.

BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?

TRANISHA: A few challenges I’ve faced has been getting exposure and really learning the ins and outs of being a Self-Published author.

BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?

TRANISHA: I’ve written five books thus far, with one of them being published as of now. My current genre is Religion, Spirituality with plans to expand into Children’s and Christian Romance.

BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

TRANISHA: When reading my books, I would like for people to get encouragement. I would like them to feel the love of God coming from my words. I want people to know that through it all, God is always there and seeing them through.

BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?

TRANISHA: I would suggest getting a writing coach and an editor that doesn’t know you. Take your craft serious, but also have fun doing it.

BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?

TRANISHA: Yes, I am working on two separate books and a line of journals. On the Path to Purpose is my next book and should be released at the end of April, and the others by the summer.

BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?

TRANISHA: Being an author means being able to reach many. My ministry is worked through my words and it’s a beautiful feeling to know that my words, inspired by God, are being able to help people I may never meet. Being an author means being able to completely express yourself and bring life to your words as well as the words of others.

BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

TRANISHA: I can’t really say where I see myself because I’m allowing God to lead my life, but I would like to be a New York Times best selling author, and the owner of a full service Salon here in Texas.

BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?

TRANISHA: I never considered being a full-time author until you asked this question. It’s a great thought and I would actually love that; I could work ministry full time as well as writing.

BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?

TRANISHA: If I could co-author with any author, it would have to be Maya Angelou. I know she is no longer with us, but I would have loved to pick her brain and co-author a book with her. There are so many great authors out there. If I had to pick someone living, Renetta Gunn Stephens would be one of my top choices to co-author with.

BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

TRANISHA: It’s a little challenging. But only because I’m new to it and still getting my feet wet. I mainly advertise on social media.

BLAQVERSITY: How can readers connect with you and support you?

TRANISHA: I can be found on Facebook, Author Tranisha Harkless, or on my website www.authortranisha.com
