BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?

TANISHA MACKIN: I became an author after I lost my husband to murder.  I fond healing in writing my story and after the first book, I just kept going.


BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?

TANISHA: Writing was something I loved, but I never thought that I would be an author.  My late husband and children motivated me. 


BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?

TANISHA: Michelle Obama and Dave Ramsey.


BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?

TANISHA: I haven’t faced too many challenges.  I was afraid of judgement but I let it go because I wanted to share my story.


BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?

TANISHA: I’ve written 8 books and co-authored in about 8 books, which one includes working with Actress and Comedian Kim Coles.  My genre is biography.


BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

TANISHA: I want them to be inspired and encouraged with my testimony.  And I want them to know if I could go through it and come out smiling, they can too.

BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?

TANISHA: I tell all my clients to start with an outline.  It’s the blueprint to their book.

BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?

TANISHA: I am working on several Anthologies that I am the visionary behind.  Both books will be released this summer.

BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?

TANISHA: It means healing, sharing my testimony and showing people that I came out on top overtime I went through something.

BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

TANISHA: I own a publishing company, so I see myself publishing more and more books as I continue to level up in my business.

BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?

TANISHA: Yes, I am an author full-time as well as a publisher.

BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author in the world, who would it be and why?

TANISHA: Michelle Obama hands DOWN!!!

BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

TANISHA: It can be challenging at times but you have to keep promoting your book on all platforms, including having book signings, book tours, speaking engagements and vendor events.
