“My motivation came from God to empty myself out into this book and when a close friend after hearing my story said I should think about writing a  book it could help save someone life or enlighten them and well I prayed and I started out on my journey and persisted until it was completed.”

VERSAFI MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?

DERRY COX: I always love to write, and has been writing for some time but not as an official author until that urge was in my spirit. I was a person who when a thought came to my mind I would write it down. Today I can say it was for now those notes were taken because they make up part of my book.

VERSAFI: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue?

DERRY: Not necessarily, after giving my life to Christ I wanted to tell my story of restoration of what happened to me and how God showed me the way. Always being someone who loved to makes notes of my thought for sure, but never to be a published author.

VERSAFI: Who motivated you?

DERRY: My motivation came from God to empty myself out into this book and when a close friend after hearing my story said I should think about writing a  book it could help save someone life or enlighten them and well I prayed and I started out on my journey and persisted until it was completed. There were days when I did not feel like writing but I pushed through and now I am a proud published author.

VERSAFI: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?

DERRY: The only challenge now is getting the book in front of people with the pandemic now it is a bit difficult to do so, but I do know and confident that the readers that this book was intended to meet will eventually read it. With that I am okay.

VERSAFI: How many books have you written?

DERRY: This is my first book of many to come

VERSAFI: What is your genre?

DERRY: Inspirational/Christian

VERSAFI: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

DERRY: That they can do all things through Christ. They can always find strength in him and that he is never too far, we have a friend in him for life, one who will never leave us. All that’s needed is that they call on him.

VERSAFI: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?

DERRY: I say just start and you will see how that first word can lead to thousands of word. Think about what you would like to share with the world. How would you like to impact others in a positive way? Your story is needed. Just start. If the urge is there it means its part of your purpose and that should give you enough encouragement to write and continue to see it to the end.

VERSAFI: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?

DERRY: I have some ideas I am putting together for a children’s book. And that will take some time so maybe another 6 months or so for release date. But definitely looking forward to starting and completing this project.

VERSAFI: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author. Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

DERRY: It can be challenging at times, especially at this time where everyone is worried and concerned about the state of not only the county but the world and so it takes a little bit more focus than normal or persistence as per usual. My marketing strategies has been investing in a book trailer to keep running and a few ads on IG and FB to get to word out there and also trying to get interviews for magazines such as yours and radio stations can be a huge benefit in promoting your book. Also, if it is something that can be afford a virtual book tour works now since everyone is at home. And even in the near future those are some of the marketing strategies I would recommend.

VERSAFI: What are your thoughts on authors supporting other authors?

DERRY: I absolutely believe that authors should support others we all have our own uniqueness and I believe that we all have a message to relay and we can help each other get ours messages out to the world. I believe in the power of love and when we support each other it’s a reflection of compassion and of love.

VERSAFI: How can readers connect with you and support you?

DERRY: I am on Instagram and Facebook  as “Iamderrycox, and my website is my book is on amazon and also on my website (signed copies, with daily give away)
