Newly Published Author Spreads Empowerment and Motivation in her Book Abused But Not Abandoned

VERSAFI MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author begin?

KASHYKA MCDOWELL: It began when I became stuck. I had given up on myself and I needed a change. That is when my co-worker suggested that I write a book.

VERSAFI: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue?

KASHYKA: No it has not.

VERSAFI: Who motivated you?

KASHYKA: My children and my desire to leave them a legacy.

VERSAFI: What inspired you to write your first book?

KASHYKA: The compassion I felt for the women around me who reminded me of myself.

VERSAFI: How does it feel to be a published author?

KASHYKA: For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I am proud of myself.

VERSAFI: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?

KASHYKA: A lack of support from some of the people that I thought had my back.

VERSAFI: What genre do you write on?

KASHYKA: Religious/ Self Help.

VERSAFI: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

KASHYKA: I want them to be encouraged to not give up on themselves because God hasn’t.

VERSAFI: What does being an author mean to you?

KASHYKA: It gives me a since of freedom. Every word I write releases me from bondage.

VERSAFI: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

KASHYKA: I see myself owning a publishing company.

VERSAFI: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?

KASHYKA: Yes in the near future.

VERSAFI: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author. Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

KASHYKA: I am still learning the ropes. Purchasing a website has helped me to connect others and by word of mouth. I have had trouble connecting with people in other states.
