VERSAFI MAGAZINE: THANK YOU SO MUCH AVANT FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT YOUR BUSY SCHEDULE TO INTERVIEW WITH VERSAFI MAGAZINE. NOW WITH YOUR ALBUMS AND SONGS TALKING ABOUT LOVE, WHAT DOES LOVE MEANS TO YOU?
AVANT: It’s a conversation piece. Going back to the time where those parts of love was special when there weren’t any physical activities. We have to change our mindset on what love should be. At the end of the day, you got to understand that lust is strong to. See you have to fall in love first.
VERSAFI: CONGRATULATIONS ON THE DROP OF YOUR NEW ALBUM ‘CAN WE FALL IN LOVE’ THAT WAS RECENTLY RELEASED THIS MONTH. ARE THERE ANY MAJOR COLLABORATIONS OR SPECIAL APPEARANCES ON THE ALBUM WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
AVANT: No, I haven’t done an album in five years so I think the focus should be on me.
VERSAFI: WELL I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT! WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE TITLE OF YOUR ALBUM?
AVANT: Well again, I feel like we are in lust. I am in the middle-aged generation, so we aren’t really teaching the younger generation what love really is. They cannot learn love if the music of today is telling them something else.
VERSAFI: I definitely agree! The music of today is changing, and we got to teach our younger generation how to love. So, what are some of your favorite singers?
AVANT: Aww man! It’s always hard to choose between this era and my era. I like Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Sam Cooke, Johnny Taylor, and the Blues etc. Those are the artists that told a story.
VERSAFI: NOW THAT’S A GREAT COMBINATION OF ARTISTS! I ENJOY OLD SCHOOL MUSIC WITH THAT GOOD FEEL TO IT! NOW I KNOW THAT YOU ARE A FAMILY MAN AS WELL WITH TWO KIDS. WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING THEM ABOUT LOVE?
AVANT: I tell them you are going to get hurt. But it all depends on how you manage that hurt that will make you a good person at the end of the day. My daughter is only seven, so I don’t have to go with that phase with her. Now my son is 17 and he is starting to experience real life and how it goes. He is seeing that I cannot save him from every situation.
VERSAFI: AT THAT PARTICULAR AGE, IT CAN BE VERY CRITICAL BECAUSE THEY WILL START TO EXPERIENCE SOME REAL- LIFE SITUATIONS OF WHAT THEY THINK LOVE REALLY IS. SO, WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR LISTENERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR NEW ALBUM?
AVANT: I want them to take away if they are in a relationship that it will help them to better the relationship or to get away from that person or to have a great conversation with them. Those three angles are good enough for me.
VERSAFI: GREAT ADVICE! ON THE ALBUM, DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE SONGS FROM THE ABLUM THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
AVANT: For me I had fun on all of them. For me it’s like picking a child and you can’t pick your favorite out of all of them. They were all good moments; that’s how I look at music as moments, every song has a moment.
