First-Time Author Talks on the Journey of Healing and Purpose in Debut Book ‘The Gift of Ruin’
VERSAFI MAGAZINE: I want to say congrats on your book release and your many accomplishments! Looking at your media kit, I learned so much about you already! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to interview with Versafi Magazine. So Dr. Alison how did your journey as an author begin?
DR. ALISON EZELL: It was something that I had written on my goal list for the year of 2020. My mentor actually encouraged me to take the leap and tell my story.
VERSAFI: Don’t we all love how our mentors always encourage and push us towards our purpose and goal? I’m loving that already! Now was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue?
DR. EZELL: Becoming a writer was something that I wanted to pursue as of last year. I went as far as to write it down on my goal sheet for the year.
VERSAFI: It’s always a blessing to try new things in life and for you it was writing and publishing your book. everyone has that one person or one thing that motivated them along the way. For you, who or what motivated you?
DR. EZELL: Going through a life change is what motivated me. Everyone has a story to tell and I wanted to tell mine.
VERSAFI: You are absolutely right! Everyone has a story to tell and the best way to get your story out is to talk about it through a book! Now that you are officially published, how does it feel?
DR. EZELL: It feels amazing to be a published author. It is something I have wanted to do for my goal list of 2020, despite the fact that I’m not a fan of writing.
VERSAFI: Really? You aren’t a fan of writing? That’s very interesting to know! LOL. So since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
DR. EZELL: I haven’t faced any challenges as of yet, not to say that I won’t meet any but when or if they do arise, I’ll be prepared to handle them.
VERSAFI: What genre is your book on?
DR. EZELL: I wrote about my story and my struggles in relationships, finances, personal development and much more.
VERSAFI: Sounds like a great story! A lot of people seems to relate when stories are written about what you have gone through in life. What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
DR. EZELL: I want them to have awareness. Awareness of themselves and self-reflect. I want people to seek mentorship and the knowledge in order to progress them and their families forward in life.
VERSAFI: Reflecting about yourself is very important and I think everyone should do that. Now that you are a first-time author, what does being an author mean to you?
DR. EZELL: It means I can tell my story and help people to progress in life from learning from my mistakes. It also opens other doors of opportunities for podcasts and panel discussions and leaving a legacy for my family. When I transition, my book and the words that I wrote will live on forever.
VERSAFI: I definitely agree with you on that Dr. Ezell. When you tell your story to others, it will open new doors for you and to create new opportunities. We got to get ready and stay ready! I like to ask this question for all authors and entrepreneurs, so for you, where do you see yourself five years from now?
DR. EZELL: I see myself living outside of the US, near a beach, enjoying time with my family and making a living from passive income, stocks and forex.
VERSAFI: Now that’s a definite boss move! Living outside the US.! How amazing! Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
DR. EZELL: I never thought about becoming a full-time author because I am actually not a fan of writing. It takes a lot for me to collect my thoughts and organize them into something presentable.
VERSAFI: Right, I forgot you told us you aren’t a fan of writing! LOL. But please tell the readers about your marketing strategies as an author. Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your first book?
DR. EZELL: My strategy is to always spark that interest in my followers through social media, but one of the challenges that I face when promoting my book is doing the promotions and advertisements especially since I’m not much of a “techy” person and do not have much experience in doing so.
VERSAFI: I can relate to that when it comes to marketing and advertising on social media. It can be a really big challenge, but with the right strategies, you will do just fine. So with that being said, do you have any current book projects that you are working on?
DR. EZELL: I am in the very beginning stages of working on my cookbook that will possibly be published before the end of the year.
VERSAFI: Now that’s something that’s different to write and publish! Not too many authors publish cookbooks and I look forward to seeing yours! A big congrats on that! So how can readers connect with you and support you?
