“Being an author means being able to share what I am passionate about and that is developing high self-worth and having a healthy relationship with food for adults. For the children’s side of my writing, spreading kindness and help children learn new concepts through colors and much more.”

VERSAFI MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?

ALLISTAR BANKS: I began my journey as an author when I was in the fourth grade and I wrote a children’s picture book called ‘The Sorcerer and the Magic Pond’ where Henry the III who is a wizard t learned to use his powers for good and not for evil by promising the pond nearby to help Princess Hera-Fair-Darling-Julie grow her hair long.

VERSAFI:  Wow! That sounds like a great story! You really did have a vivid imagination as a child! What a wonderful gift to have! Was becoming a writer something, you always wanted to pursue?

ALLISTAR: Yes.

VERSAFI:  Awesome! So every author or writer has someone or something that has motivated them to start their journey of writing. For you, who or what motivated you?

ALLISTAR: My fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Jones.

VERSAFI: That is wonderful! Especially when you are in grade school at a young age and one of your teachers is the reason and motivation behind your journey as an author. So what was your inspiration behind your first book?

ALLISTAR: My very first book was self-published back in 2014 called ‘For Better or For Worse’ which was based on a true story about my parents’ divorce and how I coped with the pain of their separation. As of today I am updating the novel.

VERSAFI: Sounds like a great read! Since your journey, how does it feel to be a published author?

ALLISTAR: It feels invigorating to be a published author.

VERSAFI:  Have you faced any challenges since becoming an author?

ALLISTAR: I have faced challenges such as finding my target audience with my Contemporary Christian books for young adults called ‘Girl Rise’ and ‘Cracking the Happy Weight Code’ which are based off of my personal experiences of dealing with low self-worth with my friendships and love relationships and my unhealthy relationship with food.

VERSAFI:  Yes, a lot of authors do face those challenges especially when it comes to finding their target audience. I think it is very important so authors will know who to target and market their books to. So, what genre do you write on?

ALLISTAR: Children and Adult Fiction.

VERSAFI: Those are awesome combinations of genres. With all of the books you have written and published, what message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?

ALLISTAR: I want them to take away having a positive mindset and feeling at peace where you are in life. For kids, I want them to take away showing kindness to others and exploring the world that’s around them.

VERSAFI: That sounds like a great message for both children and young adults! What does being an author mean to you?

ALLISTAR: Being an author means being able to share what I am passionate about and that is developing high self-worth and having a healthy relationship with food for adults. For the children’s side of my writing, spreading kindness and help children learn new concepts through colors and much more.

VERSAFI:  I love your creativity and thinking! It’s so motivational and encouraging! Now where do you see yourself five years from now?

ALLISTAR: I see myself being a motivational speaker.

VERSAFI:I can definitely see you as one! Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?

ALLISTAR: Yes.

VERSAFI: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author. Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?

ALLISTAR: I have joined groups online that fall within my niche of books. I find it to be challenging at times because there are so many books out there that teach similar principles to what I write about.

VERSAFI:  That’s true but you have to think outside of the box when writing your books. A lot of people write on the same genres, but what you have to prepare your mind mentally and ask yourself how am I going to draw my attention to readers with my books? What can I do differently that they haven’t done? That’s how I look at it. With all that said, do you have any current book projects that you are working on?

ALLISTAR: I am a Co-Author for a book called ‘Messages to Younger Self’ written by Debbie Brimble that will be released in September. I have a kid’s book collaboration with Andrej Milic on acts of kindness. I am also working on my ‘Girl Rise’ series and ‘Sarah’s Story.’

VERSAFI: Sounds like you have your hands full and that’s always a great thing! Congrats on your new projects! In total how many books have you published?

ALLISTAR: I have nine books published in total.

VERSAFI: Keep going! You have some great ideas and books! So tell the readers how they can connect with you and support you?
